PSY 523 - Eating Disorders and Body Liberation3 credits This course is an introduction to eating disorders and treatment strategies, with an emphasis on how body politics impact the development and maintenance of eating disorders. Basics of eating disorder treatment will be discussed, including etiology, diagnosis, medical/nutrition concerns, and intervention strategies. Students will explore the influences of fatphobia, weight discrimination, racism, ableism, sexism, and other systems that impact and perpetuate disordered eating. Students will learn about Health at Every Size ®, Intuitive Eating, and other embodied frameworks used in the treatment of eating disorders.
Prerequisite(s): Enrolled in the MMHC program
