The MEd in Inclusive Education: Dyslexia, ELL and Cultural Competence was developed in accordance with the Washington Educators Standards, the Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading from the International Dyslexia Association, and the International Literacy Association standards. The program has a heavy emphasis working with dyslexic students and has cultural competence woven throughout the coursework. Participants learn how to identify, evaluate and deliver specialized instruction to students, who for reasons of language barriers or learning disabilities are struggling to learn to read and/or write.
Courses
The MEd in Inclusive Education is comprised of two endorsements: Reading and ELL or BLE and an additional research course sequence. The flexible delivery model of these courses allow students to take all or a portion of the course: online, hybrid, or face-to-face. Alternatively, candidates can also select to demonstrate competency by completing a portfolio assessment and comprehensive knowledge exam.
