Organizational Leadership, with National Board Certification Portfolio Support*: 32 credits

A broad-based major designed to meet the needs of a certified teacher with three or more years of accomplished teaching who desires to become a National Board Certified teacher in the area of their specialization. Successful completion of National Board-certified Teacher Certification meets the professional certification standards for the State of Washington. Teachers who wish to obtain a Master of Education degree have the opportunity to earn the degree and prepare for submission of their individual work products to the National Board for certification.

Degree requirements include 26 core credits in the areas of educational foundations, effective teaching and classroom leadership focused on student learning, current research and best practice, parental collaboration and responsiveness to diverse community interests, and school improvement planning. Additionally, 7 credits (2 courses) are dedicated to the understanding of National Board requirements and the preparation of the Candidate’s individual portfolio.
