Elementary Education Major/Endorsement (Levels K-8)

This baccalaureate degree program is designed to provide broad preparation for students planning to teach at the elementary (K-8) grade level. Students complete the General University Course Requirements (GUCRs), professional education core courses, major courses (specialty methods courses), a selected concentration, and required supporting courses.

Upon satisfactory completion of all requirements for a B.A. in Education degree and all state certification requirements, including successful completion of the WEST-E Elementary Education (005 and 006) and Teacher Performance Assessment, Heritage University recommends the student to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Washington State Residency Teacher Certificate.  The certificate will include all endorsements earned at that time by the student.  Candidates must pass the specifically required WEST-E before any endorsement will be recommended.

1. General University Course Requirements: 43-45 credits

3. Major/Endorsement Elementary Education: 15 credits


4. Concentration/Endorsement (choose one):


Bilingual Education, Early Childhood Education, English as a Second Language (ESL is referred to as English Language Learners (ELL) by the PESB), Special Education, Middle-Level Math, Middle-Level Science

Note:


For middle-level math concentration, take MATH 116  or MATH 117 .

6. Supporting Courses for Mid Level


A minimum of 126 credits, including 48 upper-division credits (300 level and above), is required for graduation.

Candidate must pass the specifically required WEST-E and the ACTFL language proficiency assessments before any endorsement will be recommended. Students are encouraged to take the ACTFL early in program. This will assist in determining if a foreign language course work is necessary.
