Behavioral Health Aide: Indigenous Education Pathway for Tribal Nations
|
|
Behavioral Health Aides (BHAs) provide critical healthcare services and supports to adults and adolescents, families, and communities throughout tribal communities in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The education program aligns with the specific scope of work as identified by the Portland Area Community Health Aide Program Certification Board (PACCB). The education program prepares BHAs with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide quality behavioral health care in Pacific Northwest tribal communities to increase access and services in a culturally-responsive manner. Offered spring, summer, and fall semesters via a cohort model.
BHA Certificate outcomes:
- Understand the history and culture of the indigenous population in which the BHA intends to work and live.
- Develop intervention programs rooted in indigenous culture.
- Identify and analyze appropriate resources for individuals, families, and the indigenous community as a whole.
- Develop indigenous community evaluation and prevention plan.
- Collaborate with the indigenous community to develop community-based education plans and access behavior health resources.
- Implement interventions from an ethical perspective for the individual, family, and community.
- Utilize effective written and oral communication and professional behaviors to foster shared decision-making and accountability among the indigenous population.
- Articulate applicable confidentiality, privacy, and consent laws and regulations.
- Evaluate client needs and treatment planning using DSM & ASAM criteria.
- Prioritize removing barriers to the provision of culturally inclusive behavioral health care.
