Teacher Preparation Admission Requirements

  1. Transcript with conferred Bachelor Degree posted.

  2. Minimum of 3.0 GPA for last 30 semester or 45 quarter credits. 

  3. Apply for  Graduate admission to Heritage University

  4. Apply for admission to Heritage University’s Teacher Preparation Program

  5. Must attempt and submit scores of basic skills test (WEST-B, ACT or SAT)  prior to program start.

  6. Complete Teacher Preparation interview.

  7. Sign Declaration of Major Form.

  8. Complete a WATCH background clearance.

 

Teacher Preparation Program Requirements

  1. Maintain a minimum of 3.0 throughout program.

  2. Complete Pre-Residency Certificate clearance (4050) on OSPI EDS Portal and Clear Moral Character and Personal Fitness–WAC 181-86 and 181-87 and RCW 28-A.410. 

  3. Complete Professional Growth Plan (PGP)

  4. Submit Portfolio Assessment

  5. Submit Internship timelog with a minimum of 450 Hrs

  6. Submit a disposition form each semester during the program.

  7.  As a graduate student, repeat any course where student may have earned a B- or lower as the final course grade.

  8. Failure to complete any of the above requirements at any point in the program may result in the following process:

    • Meet with Academic Advisor to create Academic Action Plan

    • Meet with Department Chair to discuss progress in the program

    • Program suspension or program removal.

 

Residency Teacher Certification Requirements

  1. Complete Program Degree.

  2. Pass the appropriate NES/WEST-E (s).

  3. Pass the appropriate Portfolio Assessment.

  4. Complete Professional Growth Plan (PGP)

 

 

** The College of Education strongly recommends an advising meeting with the Heritage University financial aid office prior to beginning classes.

 

 

DISCONTINUANCE IN ANY SEMESTER 

Recommendations for discontinuance are made to the Chair of Teacher Preparation.

Candidates will be removed from the program if:

  1.  They are unable to demonstrate adequate progress in student (K-8 learner) learning

  2.  They are unable to demonstrate adequate progress in content knowledge and skills 

  3.  They are unable to demonstrate adequate progress in pedagogical techniques 

  4.  They are unable to achieve an expected level of classroom management knowledge and skills 

  5.  They are unable to serve effectively as a mentored resident intern 

  6.  They do not participate actively and effectively in team and school-based learning teams

  7.  They fail to meet expectations for attendance at school site or courses 

  8.  They fail to maintain requirements of the teacher preparation program

  9.  They fail to meet Disposition Standards
