Environmental Science (Specialization in Chemistry), B.S.


Environmental Science Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate broad science content knowledge in the life sciences and be able to describe fundamental concepts in the life sciences.
  2. Demonstrate broad science content knowledge in the physical sciences and be able to describe fundamental concepts in the physical sciences.
  3. Use quantitative information to obtain sound results and recognize questionable assumptions.
  4. Recognize the major components of the earth’s systems and how they function together.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the importance of natural resource policy; major natural resource and environmental regulations; and the current issues in regional, national and international settings.
  6. Apply scientific methods in studying the environment.
  7. Critically examine all sides of environmental issues and apply understanding of ecological principles to create informed opinions about how to live.
  8. Demonstrate proficiency in the collection, interpretation and presentation of scientific data.

The environmental science degree emphasizes chemistry, biology, and geology necessary to prepare students for complex environmental issues in remediation, control, and planning. This degree prepares students for a variety of positions in industry and government, as well as graduate studies in environmental science.
