PSY 561 - Substance Use Disorders3 credits This course will provide a discussion of substance use disorders from a biopsychosocial perspective. Students will learn about American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria for diagnosis and treatment, the sociopolitical context of substance use, including the “War on Drugs,” the role of self-help groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, and harm reduction approaches to treatment.
