HIS 481 - Indigenous Movements in Latin American History3 This course surveys the history of Latin America by focusing specifically on movements led by, and composed of, Indigenous communities. General themes include the longstanding effects of colonialism, exercises of Indigenous agency, and the importance of Indigenous worldviews and understandings of the past. These themes will be developed according to specific topics that cover wide geographic range, from what is now the southwestern United States to South America’s Southern Cone. Specific topics may include: rebellions during the colonial period; Indigenous reactions to 19th-century liberalism and 20th-century nationalism; and contemporary movements for recognition and autonomy.
