HIS 316 - The United States in Depression and War, 1919-19453 This course explores the period from 1919 to 1945 with particular emphasis on the transformations brought about as the United States became a major power on the world stage, mass consumerism increasingly characterized a new economy and culture, and the Great Depression, New Deal, and World War II recreated the role of the federal government. The course will also explore the social tensions that lay beneath many of these advances, including conflicts rooted in race, gender, religion, and class.
