The College of Arts and Sciences is composed of the following department and programs: Business Administration and Accounting, English and Humanities, Fine Arts, General Studies, Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Sciences, Social Science, and Social Work. Each department offers variety programs which are designed to prepare students for careers in professions that meet the needs of a modern multicultural society. Students may earen Certificates, Associate of Arts Degrees, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Medical Sciences Degrees. An understanding of basic principles and practical applications is emphasized in all the college’s programs.
Each department or program in the College of Arts and Sciences performs an assessment of academic achievement prior to graduation. These assessments may include an interview, review of a portfolio containing the student’s work, and/or review of performance capstone courses. The purposes of these terminal assessments are to provide a tangible basis for assurance that learning goals have been achieved and to assess the effectiveness of the academic programs offered by the college.
The College of Arts and Sciences supports the conduct of studies to address issues of concern to the community it serves. These studies are carried out through undergraduate research projects. This undergraduate research provides valuable services to the community and practical experience for students.
The college also supports subject matter courses for education majors seeking a variety of teaching certificates and endorsements. The College of Arts and Sciences provides practicum experience in K-12 schools throughout the area. It also supports education majors by providing teaching experience in community outreach programs.
